About the Author – Sathya is the best-selling author of In My Hands, a YA fantasy-adventure novel, and ‘The Crane in the Mist’, a short story published in the anthology, Tales Untold: Mythos Around the World. Her stories are inspired by her childhood and travels, especially time spent visiting her family in Kodagu, India, where she learned the art of storytelling from her grandparents.
Sathya is a member of the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), and The Author’s Guild and is an active participant in the children’s book community through events such as Multicultural Children’s Book Day and World Read Aloud Day (WRAD).
About the Illustrator – Janan is an early years educator in learning support by day and a freelance, self-taught illustrator by night. A serendipitous switch in career from finance to education changed her narrative which led to illustrating children’s books.
Her art style is inspired by moments from her life as a teacher, her love for small joys and an eye for detail. This has been a guiding light in envisioning meaningful and mindful concepts weaved purposefully into storybooks for young children. As a second generation kid herself, she aspires to reach young readers universally with an eclectic touch.
About the Author
S
athya Achia was born and raised in Ontario, Canada, where she grew up devouring books and playing along the pebbly shores of Lake Huron, before moving to the United States.
Sathya’s creative work is influenced by her South Indian Kodava culture. She grew up spending summers in the remote hills and enchanting jungles of the Western Ghats in India, where she learned the art of storytelling from her grandparents.
As a young reader, she missed seeing heroes like herself—of two worlds and cultures—so she enjoys writing stories inspired by her East meets West roots, mythology and folklore, and the natural world. She believes in the importance of diversity and representation in children’s literature and creates stories of adventure and discovery for picture book, middle grade, and young adult readers.
Sathya’s debut YA novel, In My Hands, was published by Ravens & Roses Publishing in August 2022. Her short story, The Crane in the Mist, will appear in the YA anthology, Tales Untold: Mythos from Around the World in November 2022. Sathya is an active member of the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), the Author’s Guild, and the 12×12 Picture Book community.
By day, Sathya is an award-winning communications professional who currently serves as a senior editor at one of the world’s largest global advertising agencies. Previously, she’s worked in public relations and as a health/medical writer and editor for both consumer and trade publications, pairing her curiosity for understanding what makes the world tick with a love for communicating across print and digital formats.
When not spinning stories, Sathya can be found trying a new yoga pose, exploring the great outdoors, traveling the world, or wrapped up in her greatest adventure of all: Motherhood.
